Oct. 2: "Embracing the Cries at Our Front Gate" with Chris Lahr, Recruiter and Academic Director for Mission Year

Chris LahrChris will be sharing on the topic, "Embracing the Cries at Our Front Gate," which stems from an experience he had while serving at the "Home for the Dying and Destitute" in Calcutta, India.  Chris will explore God's heart for the poor and look at what it may mean for the Church to also embrace this aspect of God's heart.

Oct. 9: “Election 2008 and the Catholic Conscience” with Jerry Beyer, Ph.D., Asst. Professor of Theology, St. Joseph’s University.

Dr. Jerry BeyerGerald J. Beyer is assistant professor of theology at Saint Joseph's University in Philadelphia, PA.  He holds a doctorate in theological ethics from Boston College, an M.A.R. from Yale University Divinity School, and B.A. in philosophy from Georgetown University.  He also studied in Krakow, Poland for several years, including a year as Fulbright fellow.

Jerry teaches courses on Christian social ethics, economic ethics, war and peace, and the ethic of Solidarity in Poland.  His research interests include the nature of solidarity and its feasibility in the contemporary world, Catholic social thought, human rights, economic justice, contemporary Polish society and its transformation to democracy and a free-market system, access to education at U.S. Catholic institutions of higher learning, and human evolution and morality.  He has published in The Journal of Religious Ethics, Notre Dame Journal of Law, Ethics and Public Policy and other academic journals.  He has also written articles for wider audiences, including a recent piece in Commonweal magazine that applies Catholic principles to the upcoming election: "Yes, You Can. Why Catholics Don't Have to Vote Republican" (Commonweal, June 20 2008).

Oct 23: “The Calling on Film” with Gerard Molyneaux, FSC, Ph.D., Professor of Communications, La Salle University.

Bro. Gerard Molyneaux Director of External & International Relations and Professor of Comunications at La Salle University, Bro. Gerry's love of film is shown through his publications: Charlie Chaplin's 'City Lights' (1983), James Stewart: A Bio-Bibliography (1992), Gregory Peck: A Bio-Bibliography (1995), and John Sayles (2000).

In addition to his love of films, Bro. Gerry also enjoys biking, music, and sports, particularly the "Fightin' Irish" of Notre Dame. While not in the classroom teaching about film, Bro. Gerry moderates the Sigma Phi Lambda fraternity and takes an active interest in Communication alumni. He also enjoys helping recent La Salle graduates in their search for jobs.
