LITURGICAL MINISTRIES
Click here for the master server's schedules- January
'09-March'09.
Liturgical Ministries
support worship and prayer activities, most especially the Mass, through
which the faithful are nourished by God's Presence in Word and
Sacrament. Specifically: Altar servers, art and environment, audio
visual ministry, Extraordinary ministers, lectors, music, sextons, and
usher ministries. For information regarding any of the Liturgical
Ministries, please contact Mary Breithaupt at (215) 482-4264, ext. 19 or
at mbreithaupt@stmarymanayunk.com.
Altar Servers: Altar servers
assist the priest and deacon during the celebration of Mass and other
liturgical services. Altar servers can be children (i.e., fourth grade
and older) or adults.
Art and Environment: This is a
team of people who work to transform the worship environment based on
the liturgical themes and the liturgical seasons of the year. The group
is always looking for artists that work with various mediums and people
who can clean and perform housekeeping related tasks in the church.
Audio Visual Ministry: This
ministry provides audio visual support to enhance and/ or impact any
worship service. During liturgical celebrations, these volunteers sit in
the choir loft and advance slide shows, movie clips and videos when
applicable.
Eucharistic Ministers: These
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, as they are called, assist
the priest with the distribution of the Body and Blood of Christ at Mass
and other liturgical services. Some Eucharistic Ministers take Holy
Communion to the sick or others who are unable to attend Mass.
Lectors: These people proclaim the
Word of God at Sunday Mass and daily Mass, as well as at other
liturgical celebrations. A lector strives to present the Word of God
with clarity and distinction. Lectors also lead the congregation at Mass
in the praying of the General Intercessions.
Music Ministry: This group of
people is comprised of cantors and instrumentalists who exercise their
musical gifts and talents in order to enhance the liturgical
celebrations of the parish. Cantors and instrumentalists are trained so
that the members can learn, review and practice music and songs which
will be included in liturgical celebrations.
Sextons: Sextons prepare the
worship space for the celebration of Mass and other Sacraments.
Preparation involves opening the church, turning on the lights, the
proper placement of vessels, bread and wine for Mass, the lighting of
candles and incense, and the placement and/or distribution of the parish
bulletins.
Ushers: Ushers serve by offering a
welcome to members and visitors alike. The ushers greet people in the
name of the parish and help them to feel at home. The ushers also
arrange for the 'presentation of gifts' during Mass and they coordinate
the 'taking up' of the collection. Ushers assist with traffic flow while
the faithful are in motion in order to receive Holy Communion. Ushers
hand-out the parish bulletins and also assist with any emergencies,
should they arise.
